David Suzuki’s Legacy

Photographing David Suzuki, the thing I remember most is how busy he was – my photo shoot with him was a ten minute window wedged between a phone interview with a the International Baccalaureate and a conference on how to mobilize the elderly for environmental causes.

He told me with concern, and perhaps a little bitterness, that voices of the elderly are often ignored and as a senior himself wants to see that change. Seniors are concerned for the environment and as a demographic can make a push for social and economic reform to reduce our ecological footprint.

Which brings me to David’s new book tour, “Legacy – an elder’s vision for our sustainable future,” in which he reflects on the world’s population growth and the explosion of science & technology within his own living memory. With these monstrous ingredients for ecological disaster it is interesting that a scientist would end his list of concerns with an endorsement of faith in human imagination and the generosity of Mother Nature.

You have the chance to see this preeminent activist speak his mind on September 17 at the Kitsilano Secondary School Auditorium @ 7:30.
