For a first-timer like me it was a mouth-watering revelation to learn that there was a Perogy Night at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and Community Center, but for those in the know it is an institution to socialize and enjoy a delicious dinner.
For 15 years parish volunteers have been serving perogy dinners on the first Friday of each month to raise funds for the church. Coming early is highly recommended, as there is usually a lineup of hungry people.
Served cafeteria style with shared foldout tables and chairs, it doesn’t get more grass roots than this. And there’s no need to change a thing because it is obviously popular across a broad spectrum of people – the food speaks for itself.
I managed to finish the regular dinner but no desert for me. Burp!
