It was miserable, windy and wet last night. I have to admit, walking into the Schmusic BC Party I was pleasantly surprised to see an energetic and motivated crowd.

Consider this event Vancouver’s music talent incubator, filled with musicians, managers, songwriters and promoters. I chatted with people from all levels of the industry – a freshly formed folk band, a slick emo band, some indie pop rockers, a propaganda machine, some synth pop tigers, a hip hop bad boy, a savvy communications gal and a digital venue for Vancouver’s underground music talent.

Musicians new to the scene were grateful for the relaxed and social atmosphere in which to introduce them selves and perhaps make a lasting impression on a potential label or booking agent. Scene veterans talked about how these parties facilitated fruitful partnerships and projects.

There is a lot of musical talent in this city and it’s amazing how accessible technology and people’s innovation has produced so much content and made it possible to broadcast to the world. Who will be the next hit out of Vancouver?

Born and bred a Vancouverite, Tamara Taggart is most well known for being our CTV weather woman for the last eight years. But she’s Vancouver’s poster child really – successful woman, media personality, model citizen (sitting on boards like The Kettle Friendship Society, Pacific Parkland Association and the Developmental Disabilities Association), married to a rock star and mother of two.

She really is as charming in person as on TV, even with baby Zoe in her arms and toddler Beckett also demanding her attention. Not only does she thrive in the baby chaos, she’s parlayed it into a successful modern mommy blog.

I just love this shot of the family – everyone looks so happy and engaged. You’d never guess my stylist, make up artist and hair stylists were right behind me, clapping and singing ‘Old Macdonald had a farm’. The kids were just entranced by it!
